The Dublin City Seal from the thirteenth century, the earliest item in the City Regalia, gifted in a special presentation book to Ollie Campbell by the Lord Mayor Ben Briscoe. ‘The city is portrayed at peace by a ship at sail in a sea of plenty; on the obverse the city gates are shown under siege with two sentries sounding the alarm, while two archers take aim with their crossbows. On the city walls to heralds also sound the alarm, and on the gates in the foreground are impaled the heads of three offenders as a dire warning’ ‘Stamped around the rim on both sides are the words “Sigillum Commune Dublinie” or “The Common Seal of the City of Dublin”’ The presentation box itself is signed by Ben Briscoe and has a picture of the Mansion House on the cover.
