State lottery ticket dated 1761 for the Benefit of the three United Hospitals. Issued to Captain Alcock by J. Coats. The "Three United Hospitals" were the Charitable Infirmary on Inns Quay, Mercer's Hospital, and the Hospital for Incurables in Donnybrook.
Good causes have long relied on raffles to raise money. This lottery ticket from 1761 was issued in aid of the three United Hospitals: the Charitable Infirmary on Inns Quay, Mercer’s Hospital, and the Hospital for Incurables in Donnybrook. Four years later, the Irish parliament established a nationwide hospital network funded by taxation and philanthropic donations.
