Dublin comedian Brendan Grace – born in the Liberties in 1951 – is best known for his character Bottler the schoolboy. He got his start in showbusiness as the lead singer of a showband, The Gingermen. This is one of the blazers he wore as Bottler.

Edna O’Brien wrote the screenplay for her novel of the same name, which was filmed in 1964. The dashing chap on the right hand side of this photo is a young Mike Murphy, who would later enjoy fame as a broadcaster. The cast also featured TP McKenna, Lynn Redgrave and the great Australian actor Peter Finch.
