1970s Sudocrem Tub

330g semi clear tub with white lid of Sudocrem with label on front and back. 'Sudocrem antiseptic healing cream. For napkin rash, bedsores, surface wounds, sunburn, eczema, chilblains, acne, minor burns.

Believe it or not, Sudocrem was invented in Dublin in 1931 by a pharmacist, Thomas Smith. It was originally called “Smith’s Cream”.

Irish passport of Ronnie Drew from The Dubliners. The left page has Drew's personal details written in, including profession as 'salesman'. The other page has two photos of Drew, one clean shaven black and white photo, the other sepia toned with a metallic look to it and with a beard and embossed with official seal. It's signed 'Ronald Drew'. Both pages are stamped.

Ronnie Drew was a great singer and folk musician, famous as the frontman of The Dubliners. Born in Dún Laoghaire in 1934, he founded the Ronnie Drew Group with Luke Kelly, Barney McKenna and Ciarán Bourke in 1962. Soon after, they changed their name to The Dubliners.

Colour pastel portrait of Matt Talbot by Sean DIxon.

Seán Dixon completed this sketch after the Oblate Fathers in Inchicore commissioned him to paint a portrait of Matt Talbot. Regarded as the Patron Saint of dipsomaniacs, Talbot was an alcoholic until a sudden and permanent reformation at 28. After taking a vow of abstinence, the Dublin labourer devoted the rest of his life to work and prayer, leading a harsh ascetic existence of self-deprivation and punishment. When he was found dead on a Dublin street in 1925, Talbot’s body was covered in chains that must have caused acute pain. A statue of the pious northsider can be found next to the city’s Talbot Memorial Bridge.
