Sean O’Casey lived in this tenement flat at 42 Mountjoy Square. It was the setting for his play, Shadow of a Gunman. O’Casey never forgave the Abbey Theatre for rejecting his fourth play, The Silver Tassie, and left Dublin for good in the late 1920s. He died in Torquay in 1964.
